Why do I need a Hub for Hunter Douglas electric blinds?
PoverView Hub sits at the center of the proprietary wireless network. If you plan to operate the shades using the app on your mobile device, phone or tablet, or voice commands, you need a hub.
Hub connects to your home Wi-Fi router—using wire or wirelessly.
When you tap on your mobile device or press a remote button, the command goes over Wi-Fi to the router and the associated hub. The hub then relays the command out to the shade or blind.
With a hub, you have the ability to add automated scenarios to your window coverings—open at 6 AM or close at sunset.
You can also add personal favorites—shades come part way or blind slats open or close depending on the time of the day.
Hub stores all those preferences and user-driven control settings. Hub allows you to control window coverings from anywhere in the world using the internet connection-Remote connect.
Do I need a hub for a stand-alone motorized window covering?
You may not need a hub for a stand-alone motorized window covering.
Let’s say you have a window that is up high in the living room area or a skylight window on the kitchen roof. Motorized blind is the ideal solution for those situations.
If this is the only blind or shade that you plan to get motorized, then you may not need a hub. A motorized blind with a remote to operate will do.
Do Hunter Douglas automated shades need your Wi-Fi network?
For you to operate the shades from a mobile app or voice, Hunter Douglas PowerView Hub needs to connect to your home Wi-Fi router. For stand-alone motorized blind, Wi-Fi is not needed.
Hunter Douglas automated shades enable Smart Home Living. To enable the true benefits of Smart Shades / Smart Home Living, the motorization components need to communicate with each other within a home.
How do blinds communicate with each other?
All components of Hunter Douglas motorized blinds share a common network-proprietary wireless Radio Frequency enabled network.
To use a motorized component from Hunter Douglas, the foremost task is to pair the component into the proprietary network.
We first pair the devices together. Now, all devices share a common and unique network. That allows them to communicate with each other.
How do you operate the shades over Wi-Fi?
You swipe a finger on the Hunter Douglas app on your mobile device or use a voice command.
The command uses Wi-Fi in your home to communicate with the Hunter Douglas hub through a router. The hub can then operate the shade or blind—provided you pre-paired the shade in the hub’s proprietary network.
